Pride in being a valued partner

Over our eight year history, we have developed a reputation for meeting the diverse needs and situations of our clients by being a valued partner. We do this by being able to integrate the “hard” skills related to evaluation such as research and analytical expertise, with “soft” skills such as the ability to effectively facilitate discussions.

Below we offer four client studies which represent our core services. This overview is just a fraction of the satisfied clients we continue to work with.

The Situation

eCivis is a comprehensive grants management provider of products and services. Through their grant management system, they support grant seeking entities at all stages of the grant seeking and management phases. The Rucks Group has had the privilege of specifically working with their Grants Professional Services which is led by Dr. Bev Browning, author of Grant Writing for DummiesTM and a host of other publications. eCivis’s Grants Professional Services offers clients with “top quality grant writing, management, and strategic grant planning services.”

How The Rucks Group Helped

The Rucks Group has been contracted to be part of grant writing teams to write the evaluation session for various eCIVIS clients. We participated in project meetings, reviewed drafts of the project narrative, and also virtually facilitated a session to gain deeper understanding of the project towards developing the logic model. We met tight deadlines to ensure that the proposal would be submitted on time, including being available the day of the grant submission to answer any last minute questions.

The Result

Through our work, we are able to articulate the project’s logic model, write an evaluation plan that reflected the uniqueness of the project and the requirements of the funding agency. Importantly, we ensured that the evaluation plan was seamlessly integrated into the overall grant narrative.

The Client

The Situation

This teacher professional development project focused on having teachers develop inquiry based lesson plans for STEM related classes with an emphasis on current technology during a two week intensive workshop. An additional component of the project was to provide industry internships in the summer for teachers to be able to apply these real world experiences to their classroom lessons.

How The Rucks Group Helped

The Rucks Group was hired to produce a guidebook for school districts and other interested entities to be able to replicate the project in its entirety, including the workshop and the job shadowing. As part of developing the guidebook and in order to include best practices, our team conducted a variety of observations and interviews with project personnel and participants, as well as work sessions with project leadership.

The Result

Because of the positive experience working with the project team on the manual and our track record as an external evaluator, we were later contracted to work with the team to gather additional evidence of their project outcomes and impact.

The Situation

In 2009, Central State University was awarded a five-year grant from the National Institute of Health to significantly increase their research capacity through. Although they had worked with an internal evaluator, the project team sought to contract with an external entity to bring additional evaluation depth to the project. Through a competitive bid process, The Rucks Group won a contract to during their extension timeframe to provide evaluation services.

How The Rucks Group Helped

The overall thrust of our work is to verify the accomplishments of the project, provide recommendations for process improvement, and direction towards their next iteration of the project. Toward that end, our approach included a documentation review, site visits, interviews with the CADRE team, and other key stakeholders.

The Result

Our deliverable was an extensive report detailing our findings and providing recommendations for the next iteration of the project.

The Situation

EvaluATE is a national resource center dedicated to supporting and improving the evaluation practices of approximately 250 National Science Foundation Advanced Technological Education (NSF ATE) projects across the country. A key goal of EvaluATE’s work is to ensure that all ATE Principal Investigators and evaluators know the essential elements of a credible and useful evaluation. Consistently, in addition to providing insights to the project team, the external evaluation work is intended to serve as a model for the NSF ATE community.

How The Rucks Group Helped

Because the individuals on the project team are evaluative experts themselves, the value that we bring to the team is slightly different. In this situation, our value is in reflecting their deep commitment to evaluation excellence in our work through the conversations about evaluation as field, executing methods to maximize data collection of hard to measure variables, and enhancing the self-reflection process that the team naturally engages.

The Result

Our work has aided in making strategic decisions regarding how to approach their work. Additionally, the results of our work is memorialized in annual reports.
